Justin Rose is refusing to give up hope of a maiden Masters after superb back nines kept him within touching distance of the leaders. Rose began the day an two-over-par and after an early birdie at three would have had high hopes of moving up the leaderboard. However playing in the afternoons blustery conditions the Englishman made the turn in 40 shots, finding himself at six-over the the championship. Rose is made of sterner stuff and a tremendous back nine including four birdies saw him card a one-over par 73 to leave him in the clubhouse at three over par. Oosthuizen on Augusta battles Louis Oosthuizen reflects on his third round 71 I had no choice but to hang in there, the game has felt incredibly hard over the last couple of days, Rose told Sky Sports.I played the first three holes really well today and I felt good about my game. Its been really tough to judge the wind and any time I have found myself outside 30 feet, Ive been having a hard time gauging the speed. You feel like being bounced around in the wind and that distorts the process as you are really just trying to stay solid with the putter. With the conditions looking like easing for the later starters, Rose knows he is up against adding to his 2013 US Open title but he will not give up without a fight. I was really happy to dig in, and to come back in 33, setting myself up for a good run at it tomorrow, Rose added. We had [the weather] pretty tough all day and then on the last three holes were were wondering if the wind was beginning to lay down and both Jamie and I looked at each other a bit disheartened that the wind had died down.At this stage when you are three over you are looking at the leaders being four or five under par and thinking you need a little bit of help to maybe stay within five. But with the conditions maybe easing up they are probably going to put a bit more distance between me and them so it might be a bit of an uphill struggle tomorrow but I will come out swinging. Lee Westwood produced a fabulous run of four birdies in his final seven holes Another man out to make a move on Sunday will be Lee Westwood, the Englishman shot a fine round of 71, one of just two early starters to go under par for the day.A blistering back nine leaves him at one over par and in the mix for Sunday after recovering from a slow start to finish with four birdies in his final seven holes.Even when i was three over through 11 holes I wasnt doing that much wrong, Westwood told Sky Sports. Four birdies on the back nine left Lee Westwood on one over giving him an outside chance of victory tomorrow I just had to keep hanging in there and wait for the birdie chances to come. I hit a lovely nine-iron into 12 to about four feet and then knocked it close on 13 and knocked it to about four feet again with a nine-iron on 14.I then left it hanging on the edge on 17 and made a nice one on 18 so it was nice way to finish the round and give myself a chance for tomorrow. Its an inspiring place - the more you play it the more you learn. Im trying to hang in there and edge up the leaderboard for when Sunday comes. LOUIS -- The stats say it was a dominant outing for Brandon McCarthy. He says it was luck.It felt like most everything was just a little bit off, McCarty said after the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 loss to the Cardinals in 16 innings Friday night. We were pretty fortunate to get through that. Maybe just effectively wild. Early on they seemed to be really aggressive and I was missing spots by enough to where it was harder to hit.He pitched 6 1/3 innings while giving up one hit. But that hit from Aledmys Diaz in the third scored two with the last coming on a fielding error by Joc Pederson.McCarthy, who is still rounding into form following Tommy John surgery last year, left in the seventh with leg cramps. He was fine after drinking some pickle juice and eating a jalapeno which was miserable he said.At that point in time it was going to be his last hitter anyway and with the leg cramp it made sense to get him out of there, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. He gave us everything he had and he just continues to throw the ball really well.Corey Seager was the other bright spot, going 4-for-7 after missing the last three games with the flu. He drove in the Dodgers first run in the first inning.Corey is a special young man and for him to have three days off and come back maybe not even full strength to throw up four hits is pretty tough to do, Roberts said.Matt Adams homered in the 16th inning to lead the Cardinals to their season-best fifth straight victory. It was the second consecutive game that the Cardinals won in their final at-bat. They beat the Padres on Thursday after scoring a run in the ninth inning.Adams homer came with one out off Bud Norris (5-9), who gave up six runs as a starter in an 8-1 loss at Washington on Wednesday.I didnt feel the ball come off the bat, Adams said of the 444-foot blast to left. So, I knew I squared it up. I knew it was going to go.Seth Maness (1-2) pickedd up the win with a scoreless inning of relief for St.dddddddddddd Louis, which was playing its longest game of the season.Jedd Gyorko hit a two-out homer off closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth to tie the game 3-3. It was the second blown save for Jansen during the Dodgers current nine-game road trip.It just seems like its that one mistake pitch, Roberts said. The stuffs still good. Gyorko his nitro zone is down and in and that was a ball that was supposed to be away that leaked down and in and he put a good swing on it.Justin Turner and Howie Kendrick homered for the Dodgers. Los Angeles has lost four of six. The red-hot Turner has seven homers and 17 RBI this month. He hit two homers in a 6-3 win over Washington on Thursday.Turner blasted his career-high 18th homer of the season off Seung Hwan Oh in the ninth to break a 2-2 tie.Kendricks solo shot in the sixth tied the game 2-2. He has hit in 14 successive games trying Colorados Charlie Blackmon for the longest current streak in the majors.Dodgers reliever Adam Liberatore recorded his 28th successive scoreless outing by retiring two of four batters in the seventh. He has not allowed a run in 41 of 42 appearances this season.TRAINING ROOMDodgers: OF Yasiel Puig (hamstring) was out of the starting lineup, but manager Dave Roberts said hes 85 percent and expects him to start on Sunday.Cardinals: IF/OF Brandon Moss (ankle) is expected to go on a rehab assignment early next week.
