ATLANTA -- Falcons coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Monday that defensive tackle RaShede Hageman is facing domestic violence charges resulting from an incident about six months ago.Hageman, a second-round draft choice in 2014, was held out of Sundays season-opening 31-24 loss to Tampa Bay. Quinn said Monday the pending misdemeanor charges in DeKalb County, Georgia were not the reason Hageman was not in uniform.Hageman played in all 16 games, including 12 starts, in 2015.Were aware of the serious allegations that are there, Quinn said. Under the player conduct policy we are not allowed to comment on any investigation forthright. We have been aware of those but wont comment further until the league comes to a final conclusion and all the facts are known.According to the DeKalb County police report obtained by The Associated Press, the charges of battery, cruelty to children and interfering with calls for emergency assistance developed from an incident on March 21 at the home of Hagemans girlfriend, Janeal Jefferies.Jefferies told police the two had been in court earlier in the day for a custody battle for their son.Jefferies told police Hageman entered her apartment home demanding his keys and began throwing items around the home when she said she didnt have the keys. She told police her son was crying as he watched Hageman pull her hair, verbally abuse her and then grab her phone, pulling the line out of the wall, when she said she was going to call 911.According to the police report, Jefferies said Hageman took her wallet and cellphone and left the apartment before being pursued by Jefferies. She said Hageman handed the items to a male in the parking deck but then pushed her down. The police report said Jefferies had a laceration on her left elbow and left hand.Quinn said the team immediately notified the NFL in March about the charges. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the charges on Monday.Hageman (6-6, 318) had 27 tackles and one sack last season. He has a combined two sacks in his first two seasons.Quinn said Hageman was held out of Sundays opener because coaches felt veteran Courtney Upshaw, an offseason free-agent signee, would be a better fit for the game plan. When asked why Hageman is still on the team, Quinn said, I think each situation is different. The deal is pending a physical, assistant general manager Bobby Evans said. Traded from Seattle to Baltimore on Aug. 30, Morse also can play first base and right field to give manager Bruce Bochy some flexibility in writing his lineup. Lahiru Thirimanne, the Sri Lanka batsman, might need a break from cricket to sort out his problems, said the A team coach Avishka Gunawardene.Thirimanne had played in the four-day matches against West Indies A in October and averaged 9.83 from six innings, continuing his struggles in long-form cricket. Since January 2014, he has made only two fifties in 16 Tests. As a result, he has missed Sri Lankas home series against Australia in August and was not in the squad for the tour of Zimbabwe either.Everyone goes through a bad patch sometimes, Gunawardene said. It is best to give it a break, a few weeks from cricket. Sometimes when you do wrong things and when you take a break you forget them. You basically tend to forget what you are doing wrong and you come out fresh.Thirimanne needs to take his mind off cricket and take a break. There is hardly anything wrong with his technique. The issue is probably more mental than technical. You could see that when you talk to him. When he debuted, in 2011, Thirimanne was seen as a player who could take over the No. 3 spot for Sri Lanka in Tests. Kumar Sangakkara had been their specialist iin that position and though it has been over a year since he retired, the transition has not happened.dddddddddddd Thirimanne has slipped down the pecking order and 21-year old Kusal Mendis has been given the No. 3 position.Gunawardene felt Thirimannes major problem was confidence. In the four-day game, he dropped a few chances and its all to do with confidence. His confidence level is a little down. He tried to defend while batting and he got out and in the second innings. He tried to attack and still got out.Thirimanne is a very good player and we all know he is capable of big innings. To me he just needs to get out and take a break for a couple of weeks and come out with a fresh mind.Thirimanne would still need runs, though, to make it back to the Test side and Gunawardene believed a profitable domestic season could help him achieve that goal. Its a good opportunity for him in the upcoming domestic season to go and get back into form, score some big runs and get his confidence and rhythm back. ' ' '
