They resumed playing their regulars after clinching the division Thursday.Chris Carter homered and Martin Maldonado and Peralta (7-10) added RBI singles for the Brewers, who took three of four games from the Cubs.Hendricks (15-8), making his first start since losing a no-hit bid in the ninth inning at St. Louis, struck out nine and gave up six hits. His ERA rose from 2.03 to 2.06 as he lost for the first time since July 26 at the White Sox.Youre not going to get many hits against him with the way hes been pitching this year, said Brewers manager Craig Counsell. There is not many hits out there, there is not many mistakes out there.Carter hit his 36th home run, a solo shot off Felix Pena, in the eighth, but also struck out three times to set a franchise record with 191 strikeouts.Thats why he is in there. There was three strikeouts to start the game then there was a home run to produce a run, Counsell said.Milwaukee slugger Ryan Braun got a scheduled day off after hitting two home runs Saturday.Peralta pitched in and out of trouble for most of the day and helped hold the Cubs to 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position. It wasnt easy, Peralta said. I made a lot of good pitches and they still got hits, a bloop single, infield single, whatever, but this is a tough lineup thats why they already clinched the division.Peralta gave up nine hits and struck out five.Hendricks hasnt allowed more than two earned runs in a home start since April 15 against Colorado. In each of his last 21 starts, he has surrendered three or fewer earned runs.Theres a perfect example of if youre going to vote on a won-loss record, said Cubs manager Joe Maddon. Just using that as a benchmark, I mean heres a guy we have not supported him run-wise a lot this year and theres another great example today. The right-hander struck out the first three batters before allowing a single to Hernan Perez to start the second inning. The Brewers hit three straight singles to score two runs. The expectations are higher for Hendricks from a year ago, when he was 8-7 with a 3.95 ERA.It definitely means my mentality is just in a different place, he said. This game last year I probably would have been a lot happier with it. Resulting in a loss, I feel like I could have done a little more just with the tools I have available to me, where Im at this year.Tommy La Stella pinch hit for Hendricks in the sixth and doubled in a run. Rizzo missed a tying home run when he flied out to the right-field warning track in the seventh.LATE INNING RELIEFThornburg has not allowed an earned run in his last 19 appearances.LOOKING AHEADBeyond home-field advantage in the playoffs, Maddon wants to reach 100 victories. To be honest with you, I dont want to spend a lot of time thinking about the big picture right now, I just want to soak this all in. I just want to enjoy tonight.Grant Haley returned a blocked field goal 60 yards for a touchdown with 4:27 left in the fourth quarter and the Nittany Lions sacked J.T. Barrett twice on Ohio States final possession to seal a milestone victory for Penn State:- First against Ohio State since 2011.- First over a ranked team under Franklin.- First against a top-five team since 1999 against Arizona.- First against a top-two team since 1990 against No. 1 Notre Dame.- First in Beaver Stadium against a team ranked so high since 1982 against No. 2 Nebraska.Penn State (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) took its first lead against the Buckeyes when Marcus Allen leaped high to block Tyler Durbins 45-yard field goal attempt and Haley made the scoop and sprint to the end zone. Its something you dream about as a kid, Haley said. Two seasons ago the Buckeyes bounced back from an early loss and won the national chhampionship.dddddddddddd Last season one loss turned out to be enough to eliminate Ohio State from the College Football Playoff.Feel the same as Michigan State last year, Ohio State defensive end Sam Hubbard said. The Buckeyes are in much better position to recover.Penn State is now in the mix, but the Wolverines and Buckeyes still have the advantage in the division. If they all finish 8-1 in the conference and the Buckeyes beat Michigan, Penn State -- which has already lost to the Wolverines -- would be eliminated from three-way tiebreaker because of a worse overall record. The Nittany Lions will worry about that later. This isnt a fluke win, linebacker Jason Cabinda said. This is who we are. This is who we believe we can be and will continue to be.THE TAKEAWAYOhio State: The Buckeyes became the highest ranked team to lose to an unranked team this season. Problems with the passing game left them unable to put Penn State away. Barrett was 28 for 43 for 245 yards and he was sacked six times as the Buckeyes, especially right tackle Isaiah Prince, struggled to protect their quarterback.I think we put our O-line in bad spots early on in drives, so were in second and long and then we had to pass and that harmed us, Barrett said.Penn State: The Nittany Lions got Cabinda and fellow linebacker Brandon Bell back from injury, and the defense played it best game of the season. Bell (19 tackles) and Cabinda (12 tackles) were all over the field and defensive end Garrett Sickels had 2.5 sacks.POLL IMPLICATIONSOhio State: How far will the Buckeyes fall?
