Ranking the leagues best cornerbacks has become a popular exercise, but one of the players who often appears on those lists decided to flip the script a bit.In a column for The Players Tribune, the Denver Broncos?cornerback?Chris Harris Jr. ranked the five toughest receivers hes covered in his six-year career. At the top of the list is New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who Harris called not a stereotypical tight end, noting he has the route-running ability and hands of a wide receiver.Harris went on to provide a more detailed breakdown of how to defend the big tight end:The best way to defend him is to not let him get started. You gotta put hands on him early so he has to stop and start again. The thing is, you cant go overboard and play too physical. Because the officials are gonna let Gronk play football. You dont want to get into a wrestling match with him. When you bump him, you have to keep him at arms length. If you get too aggressive and get up in his face, hes going to use the 50-50 battle to push off on you, and then youre in trouble.Harris knows Gronks skills all too well after shadowing him in the second half of last years AFC Championship Game while the Broncos battled injuries at safety. Despite double-team help for Harris, Gronkowski beat the cornerback?for 40 yards on fourth-and-10 on New Englands last-minute drive, and again for a touchdown four plays later. That TD could have tied the game, but the two-point conversion failed and Denver hung on -- and then, of course, won the Super Bowl.Another of the few players to give Harris trouble last season also made his list: Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Antonio Brown. Last season, Brown broke Harris two-year streak of not allowing a TD in man coverage, posting?16 catches for 189 yards and a pair of scores in a Week 15 meeting in Pittsburgh.Harris called Brown the best pure route runner in the league before elaborating:Let me explain what I mean by great route runner. Its not exactly like Madden. Route running is an art, not a science. A lot of wide receivers, they always run their routes at 100% speed. As a DB, that allows you to get a feel for how you need to play them. But Antonio changes up his speed so that you never know what his tempo is going to be coming in and out of his cuts. Its kind of like in basketball when a point guard uses a little hesitation crossover to freeze the defender before exploding to the hoop.Rounding out Harris list: the Indianapolis Colts T.Y. Hilton, Houston Texans DeAndre Hopkins and Cincinnati Bengals A.J. Green. Notably absent from the list is Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones, whom Harris and the Broncos faced last week, but the omission seems reasonable after Jones caught just 2 of 6 targets for 29 yards in the game.--?David DeChant Clearance MLB Custom Jerseys .C. RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- The referee who awarded Italy a goal after first whistling for a penalty in Saturdays Confederations Cup match against Brazil has admitted he made a mistake, FIFA said on Sunday. Referee Ravshan Irmatov of Uzbekistan blew his whistle to award Italy a penalty. A second later, as play continued, Giorgio Chiellini scored. Irmatov was seen pointing at the penalty spot but then giving a goal. "He has admitted he made a mistake," said FIFA spokesman Pekka Odriozola. Irmatov, a widely respected referee, had been expected to have a chance to referee the Confederations Cup final next Sunday but is now expected to be sent home along with his assistants, who also made two key errors in Saturdays game. Brazil won the match 4-2. Chiellinis goal brought the score to 3-2 to Brazil. Odriozola said Irmatov had not made any excuses about his mistake, but had explained it by saying, "while I was whistling for a penalty, out of the corner of my eye I saw the goal and I thought advantage should be played and gave the goal." In prestigious tournaments, refereeing teams rarely get the chance to make more than one major mistake. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, English referee Graham Poll was sent home after showing three yellow cards to a Croatian defender, while compatriot Howard Webb was sent home when one of his assistants made an error at the European Championships in 2008.dddddddddddd Webb recovered to referee the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa. Irmatov, having blown for a penalty, stopped play and should only have restarted it with a penalty. Allowing play to continue, even for half a second or so, was a "technical error," Odriozola said. If the referee had waited for a moment, the delay would have allowed him to let play develop and give the goal by playing an advantage. Instead, he blew for the penalty but then gave the goal, enraging Brazils players. The mistake was compounded by each assistant, Abduxamidullo Rasulov from Uzbekistan and Bakhadyr Kochikarov of Kyrgyzstan, failing to signal offside for two Brazilian goals. Both mistakes were close, but should have been spotted. For some match officials, the mistakes raise the question of whether referees and assistants who officiate in less competitive leagues -- like those in countries like Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan -- should be appointed to such high octane matches.
